Seattle is Boeing’s home region, and it packs an unusual amount of aviation into one trip.

You can tour Boeing’s Everett aircraft factory, explore a major aviation museum, watch aircraft at Paine Field, take a seaplane flight over the city, or book a longer scenic flight toward Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens or the San Juan Islands.

There is no single “best” experience, so match the activity to your interest. For most first visits, the combination that covers the most ground is the factory for how planes are built, the museum for aviation history, and a scenic flight if you want to be in the air yourself. The calendar below is for the Boeing Factory and Future of Flight Tour from Seattle, which includes round-trip transport and factory admission.

Other Experiences

Other experiences you might enjoy

More aviation days around Seattle: Boeing factory excursions to Everett and Future of Flight, and entry to the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. Check each listing for current inclusions and cancellation terms.

1. Boeing Everett Factory Tour

The Boeing Factory Tour is the most distinctive Boeing-specific experience in the region.

It starts at Boeing Future of Flight beside Paine Field, about 25 miles north of downtown Seattle. The guided visit takes you into Boeing’s working Everett manufacturing complex and currently focuses on the 777/777X assembly environment. Without a car, the round-trip factory tour from downtown Seattle bundles the transport and admission; it is rated 4.6/5 from more than 550 reviews.

Why it stands out

Excellent aviation museums exist in many cities. Public access to a working wide-body aircraft factory is much rarer.

Time needed

The factory tour lasts about 80 minutes, but allow around 2½–3 hours for the complete Future of Flight visit. Our booking and availability guide covers timed departures and sold-out days.

2. Museum of Flight

The Museum of Flight is the region’s major aviation-history attraction, south of downtown beside Boeing Field.

Highlights include:

  • Concorde,
  • the first Boeing 747,
  • a Boeing 787 Dreamliner,
  • the first jet Air Force One,
  • military aircraft,
  • the Space Shuttle Full Fuselage Trainer,
  • Boeing history.

Allow at least 3–4 hours. Adult admission is $29, or book the Museum of Flight entry ticket (4.7/5 from more than 80 reviews). Our Museum of Flight guide has hours, parking and the aircraft to see first.

3. Future of Flight Sky Deck

The Sky Deck overlooks Paine Field and Boeing’s Everett factory.

Depending on activity, you may see:

  • commercial aircraft,
  • private aviation,
  • Boeing aircraft,
  • test activity,
  • general aviation.

Nothing specific is guaranteed, but the location is excellent for aviation enthusiasts, and it is one of the few places near the factory where photography is allowed. It comes with Future of Flight General Admission, and with every Factory Tour ticket. More on the Gallery and Sky Deck is in our Future of Flight guide.

4. Seattle scenic seaplane flight

Seattle’s lakes, waterways and mountains make floatplane sightseeing especially appropriate here.

Kenmore Air has long operated scenic flights around Seattle and the wider Pacific Northwest. Its short Seattle scenic seaplane tour, booked direct with Kenmore Air, takes off and lands on the lake in the middle of the city, with views of the Space Needle, downtown and Elliott Bay.

A shorter Seattle scenic flight is the easiest way to combine an actual flying experience with views of the city.

5. San Juan Islands scenic flight

For a longer and more scenic experience, flights toward the San Juan Islands emphasize water, islands and Pacific Northwest landscapes more than city landmarks. The 3-hour San Juan Island seaplane tour from Seattle, run by Friday Harbor Seaplanes, flies a classic de Havilland Beaver from Lake Washington over Puget Sound to a splash-down at Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor. It is rated 4.7/5 from 40 reviews on Viator.

This is more expensive and time-consuming than a short Seattle flight but stronger if scenery is the main objective.

6. Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens flight

Mountain sightseeing flights can give extraordinary views of Mount Rainier, its glaciers and Mount St. Helens. Kenmore Air’s Mt. Rainier and Mount St. Helens flight, booked direct with the operator, flies from Boeing Field in Seattle over both volcanoes.

Weather is critical. Cloud and visibility can change the value of the experience dramatically, so keep your dates flexible and check the operator’s weather policy before you book.

7. Museum of Flight simulator

The Museum of Flight offers paid simulator experiences that can be added to a museum visit.

Treat these as entertainment, not professional pilot training, but they are a fun extra on top of a museum ticket.

8. Boeing Field aviation day

Because the Museum of Flight sits beside Boeing Field, aviation enthusiasts can combine a museum visit with airport activity and, depending on current operators, scenic flying from the area.

9. Paine Field aviation day

If Boeing is your main interest, build a half-day around:

  1. Boeing Everett Factory Tour.
  2. Future of Flight Gallery.
  3. Sky Deck.
  4. Boeing Store.

This is probably the strongest single Boeing-focused half-day around Seattle.

10. Seaplane instruction

For pilots and serious aviation enthusiasts, Seattle’s floatplane culture also makes seaplane instruction or familiarization flights an option.

These are much more specialized than ordinary sightseeing and should be arranged directly with current operators.

Which experience should you choose?

First-time Seattle visitor

Do the Boeing Factory Tour + Museum of Flight if aviation is a major interest.

Only half a day

Choose one:

  • Future of Flight for manufacturing.
  • Museum of Flight for aircraft variety and history.

One full aviation day

A possible plan is:

  • Morning Future of Flight.
  • Drive south.
  • Afternoon Museum of Flight.

Want to fly rather than look at planes?

Choose a scenic seaplane flight.

Want the biggest scenery?

Consider a mountain or San Juan Islands flight.

Traveling with young children?

The Museum of Flight is usually easiest, because the Boeing Factory Tour has a strict 4 ft / 122 cm minimum height. Children too short for the factory can still use the Kids’ Zone and Sky Deck at Future of Flight.

Best experience by budget

Lower budget: the Museum of Flight ($29 adult), with a simulator as an optional extra.
Mid-range: the Boeing Everett Factory Tour ($42–$46 direct, more with transport from Seattle).
Higher budget: a scenic seaplane flight, or a longer mountain or island flight.

Best in bad weather

The Museum of Flight and the Boeing Factory Tour are the most weather-resistant choices, because both are mostly indoors.

Scenic flights depend much more heavily on visibility and operating conditions.

Best in summer

Summer gives scenic flying a bigger role, because July and August are usually Seattle’s driest months and the long days give more flying time.

Best in winter

Build your trip around the Museum of Flight and Future of Flight first, then treat scenic flying as weather-dependent.

One-day aviation itinerary

Morning: Boeing Future of Flight + Factory Tour.
Midday: Drive south.
Afternoon: Museum of Flight.

For serious enthusiasts, this gives a strong overview of both modern manufacturing and aviation history. The museum closes at 5pm, so book an early factory tour; our getting-there guide covers the drive and parking.

Two-day itinerary

Day 1 — Boeing

  • Factory Tour.
  • Gallery.
  • Sky Deck.
  • Paine Field.

Day 2 — History + flying

  • Museum of Flight.
  • Simulator.
  • Scenic flight if available.

Planning your visit

Seattle’s aviation appeal is much bigger than one Boeing tour.

For the strongest first trip, combine three different experiences:

Boeing Everett Factory Tour for manufacturing.
Museum of Flight for history.
Scenic flight for the experience of flying yourself.

Sources and booking notes

Official sites: boeingfutureofflight.com, museumofflight.org and kenmoreair.com. Factory and museum prices were checked on September 28, 2026, and GetYourGuide ratings the same day. GetYourGuide sells none of the scenic flights. On October 7, 2026 the earlier Viator listings for Kenmore Air’s Lake Union and volcano flights had been withdrawn, so those two now link to Kenmore Air’s own booking pages, which earn us nothing; the San Juan Island seaplane tour links to its live Viator listing, rated 4.7/5 from 40 reviews that day. Compare the listing, its weather policy and the departure point (Lake Union, Lake Washington or Boeing Field) before you book. We may earn a commission from bookings.
