Best Time to Visit the Boeing Factory Tour: Day, Time of Day & Season

The Boeing Everett Factory Tour is one of the easiest Seattle-area attractions to plan in any season: it runs every day apart from a few holidays, and the tour itself is indoors, so rain does not change it. Choose your travel month for Seattle as a whole; once your dates are fixed, the more useful decision is which day and which tour time to book.

This guide compares the days of the week and the tour times, shows how the year looks around Seattle, and lets you check your exact date for holiday closures, tour times, how busy the day is likely to be and the weather.

The short answer

The Boeing Everett Factory Tour runs every day except Thanksgiving, December 24, December 25, December 31 and January 1. Tours leave Boeing Future of Flight, the visitor center beside Paine Field airport, from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and last 80 minutes. A Boeing bus takes you into the factory to watch the 777 and 777X assembly line from an indoor balcony, so rain does not affect the tour. The choices that matter are the day you book and the tour time.

Book ahead for Friday to Sunday, which Boeing calls its peak days, and for the holiday weeks around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Boeing says tickets sell out quickly. Monday to Thursday outside holiday weeks is less busy and the easier time to find seats.

If you are still choosing dates for Seattle, July and August are the driest and warmest months, with average highs in the low 70s °F at Paine Field. They are also the peak for hotel demand in the city. June and September are good alternatives, a little cooler and with about twice as many rainy days. November to February suits an indoor-focused trip: hotel demand in the city is much lower, and the wetter weather affects only the open-air Sky Deck and your drive.

Once your dates are fixed and you are driving, plan 2.5 to 3.5 hours for the tour, the Future of Flight gallery and the Sky Deck before the building closes at 5:30 p.m. A morning tour is the best choice for a relaxed visit and leaves the afternoon free for Seattle. If you book the 3 p.m. tour, see the gallery and Sky Deck before it. On a coach tour from Seattle, the operator sets the tour time.

Which day of the week to book

Tours run seven days a week, but the days are not equally busy. Boeing describes Friday to Sunday as its peak days, and its booking calendar adds an earlier 9 a.m. tour on weekends. Each tour holds about 52 people, and Boeing’s own advice is that tickets sell out quickly, so a Saturday or Sunday is the day to book well ahead.

Monday to Thursday is the easier choice if you want a wider choice of tour times or are deciding late. Walk-up tickets are sold at the desk if a tour still has room, but that is a gamble on a weekend, especially if you are driving 25 miles from Seattle for it.

Boeing does not publish how activity on the factory floor differs from one day to the next. The Everett plant works in shifts around the clock, and what you see depends on where each 777 or 777X sits in its build, so pick the day for seats rather than for the view.

Which tour time to book

In Boeing’s current booking calendar, weekend and Friday tours start at 9 a.m., Monday to Thursday tours start at 9:30 a.m., and the last tour leaves at 3 p.m. There are no departures at noon or 12:30 p.m. In the Thanksgiving and Christmas to New Year weeks, Boeing adds tours, with the last one at 3:30 p.m.

If you are driving, plan 2.5 to 3.5 hours in all. The tour takes 80 minutes, you need to arrive 30 minutes before it, and the Future of Flight gallery, Boeing Studio and the Sky Deck need another hour or more, before or after the tour. A morning tour is the most relaxed choice and leaves the afternoon free for Seattle or the drive back. The 3 p.m. tour brings you back with about an hour before the building closes at 5:30 p.m., so on that tour see the gallery and Sky Deck first. Our tour length and timing guide has a sample schedule.

An afternoon tour works if the factory is all you came for, or if you want a slower morning in Seattle first. On the round-trip coach tour from downtown Seattle, the pickup is in the morning and the operator books the tour time, so this choice is made for you.

Holiday weeks and school breaks

Future of Flight is closed on Thanksgiving, December 24, December 25, December 31 and January 1. In 2026 Thanksgiving falls on November 26; one of Boeing’s pages lists November 27 instead, but the booking calendar has tours on Friday, November 27 and none on Thanksgiving Day itself.

Book the weeks around those closures early. Boeing schedules extra tours from November 23 to 29 and from December 18, 2026 to January 3, 2027, and it notes that hours can change around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. Seattle Public Schools’ mid-winter break (February 16 to 19, 2027) and spring break (April 12 to 16, 2027) also bring more families; other districts set their own dates.

Outside those weeks, a Monday to Thursday in January, February, early March, early December or November before Thanksgiving is about as easy as booking gets.

How the year looks around Seattle

The factory tour is the same in every month, so the month matters for the rest of your trip. July and August are the driest, warmest months and the peak for downtown hotel demand. June and September are a little cooler with about twice as many rainy days, and the Alaska cruise season runs from mid-April to mid-October.

Wet days are days with at least 0.01 inch of rain. The hotel column counts downtown Seattle hotel rooms sold, so it shows demand in the city, not the size of your tour group.

July and August suit a trip that also includes the waterfront, ferries and day trips to the mountains; June and September give you most of that warmth, with slightly lower hotel demand in the city. From November to February hotel demand in the city is far lower and the days are short and wet, which suits an indoor plan: the factory tour, the Museum of Flight and Seattle’s museums all work well in the rain.

Weather and the Sky Deck

The tour itself is weatherproof. You ride an air-conditioned coach, walk about 300 feet through a utility tunnel and take an elevator to the viewing balcony inside the factory, so neither rain nor cold changes what you see.

The weather matters on the Sky Deck, the open-air observation deck over Paine Field, and on the 25-mile drive from Seattle. July and August are the best months for it, with average highs in the low 70s °F and only about six wet days a month at Paine Field. From November to January highs stay in the mid-40s to about 50°F and it rains on around 19 days a month, so plan a short stop on the deck and dress for it. On a clear day the deck also looks out to the North Cascades, but that view depends on the cloud on the day, not the month.

Which ticket suits your dates

If you have a car, buy a timed Factory Tour ticket from Boeing and pick the day and time yourself, using the advice above. Parking at Future of Flight is free.

Without a car, the From Seattle: Boeing Factory and Future of Flight Tour includes the coach from downtown Seattle, factory admission and a guide, with a morning pickup and about 4.5 hours door to door. It is rated 4.6 out of 5 across 600 reviews. On the busy weekend and holiday dates above, book it early too, because the coach seats are limited as well. Our departure guide covers the pickup point, and the ticket comparison weighs the options against each other.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best day to visit the Boeing factory tour?

Monday to Thursday outside holiday weeks is the easier time to find seats. Boeing calls Friday to Sunday its peak days, so book weekend tours well ahead.

What time is the first Boeing factory tour?

In Boeing’s current booking calendar the first tour is at 9 a.m. from Friday to Sunday and at 9:30 a.m. from Monday to Thursday. Future of Flight opens at 8:30 a.m., and Boeing asks you to arrive at least 30 minutes before your tour.

What time is the last tour?

Usually 3 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. in the Thanksgiving and Christmas to New Year weeks when Boeing adds tours. The building closes at 5:30 p.m., so a late tour leaves about an hour for the Gallery and Sky Deck.

Does the Boeing factory tour run on weekends?

Yes. Tours run Monday to Sunday, and weekends have the most tours of a regular week. Weekends are also Boeing’s peak days, so book ahead.

Is the Boeing factory tour open on holidays?

It is closed on Thanksgiving, December 24, December 25, December 31 and January 1. Other holidays are open. Boeing schedules extra tours in the weeks around Thanksgiving and Christmas, and those weeks are worth booking ahead.

Will I see more work on the factory floor on a weekday?

Boeing does not publish how activity differs by day. The Everett plant works in shifts around the clock, and what you see depends on where each aircraft is in its build, so choose your day for seat availability.

Does rain affect the Boeing factory tour?

No. The tour uses an air-conditioned coach, a tunnel and an indoor balcony. Rain affects only the open-air Sky Deck and the drive from Seattle.

Is summer a good time to visit Future of Flight?

Yes for the weather: July and August are the driest, warmest months at Paine Field and the best for the Sky Deck. Hotel demand in Seattle also peaks then, so book weekend tours early.

How we know

Visitor information was checked on October 17, 2026 against Boeing’s visit page (hours, holiday closures, peak days, walk-ups, arrival rule), the factory tour page (80-minute length, sell-out advice) and the accessibility page (coach, tunnel, elevator, 0.3-mile route). The Everett Herald (December 2025) describes the plant as a 24-hour operation. Tour times and the extra holiday-week tours come from Boeing’s public booking calendar, with tours released through January 3, 2027.

Climate figures are NOAA’s 1991–2020 monthly normals for the Everett Snohomish County Airport station (Paine Field, USW00024222), beside Future of Flight. Hotel figures are downtown Seattle hotel rooms sold during 2025, published by the Downtown Seattle Association from Visit Seattle data; May 2025 was not published. School-break dates are from the Seattle Public Schools 2026–27 calendar, and the 2026 cruise season dates from the Port of Seattle (start) and CruiseHive (last departure, October 11).

Limitations: Boeing publishes no attendance figures by month or day, so the busiest days come from Boeing’s own peak-day wording and its extra holiday tours, not from a visitor count. Tour times after January 3, 2027 are not yet released, and the hotel series is a proxy for demand in the city; it does not measure the factory tour. We found no source on whether the factory floor is busier on weekdays. The forecast in the date checker is from Open-Meteo. We may earn a commission from GetYourGuide bookings.
