The Boeing Everett Factory Tour lasts about 80 minutes, but the whole visit takes much longer. Once you add parking, check-in, lockers, the Gallery, the Sky Deck and the Boeing Store, a realistic visit to Boeing Future of Flight takes 2½–3 hours.

The timing rule that matters most is simple: arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled Factory Tour. Boeing forfeits the reservation of anyone who does not arrive promptly.

If you are coming from downtown Seattle without a car, the Boeing Factory and Future of Flight Tour from Seattle handles the 25-mile drive and the tour time for you. The calendar below shows its dates.

How long is the Factory Tour?

About 80 minutes, by Boeing’s own description.

That is the guided factory experience only: the short coach transfer into the Everett site, the walk to the visitor balcony and the time looking down on the 777 and 777X assembly line. It is not the total time you need at Future of Flight.

Other aviation days around Seattle and Everett: round-trip factory excursions to Future of Flight, and entry to the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field. Check each listing for current timings and cancellation terms.

How long should you spend overall?

For most first-time visitors, allow 2½–3 hours.

Aviation enthusiasts may want 3–4 hours, particularly if they plan to spend time plane spotting from the Sky Deck over Paine Field.

If you book a coach excursion from Seattle, plan on about 4½ hours door to door, because the round trip from downtown is part of the day.

How early should you arrive?

At least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. That is Boeing’s own recommendation.

You need the time for:

  • parking,
  • entering the building,
  • check-in at the ticket desk,
  • the restroom,
  • the free lockers,
  • gathering with your tour group.

What happens if you’re late?

You may miss the departure. Boeing’s terms say a reservation is forfeited if you do not arrive promptly. In an emergency, call Customer Service on +1 (800) 464-1476 at least one hour before your tour time, and Boeing will try to move you to another tour, depending on availability.

This matters most if you are driving up from Seattle, because I-5 traffic north of the city can be unpredictable. Our getting-there guide has the driving times and the parking details.

Example: 10:00am Factory Tour

A comfortable schedule for a 10:00am departure could look like this:

  • 9:15–9:30am: arrive and park.
  • 9:30am: check in.
  • 9:35am: restroom and lockers.
  • 10:00am: Factory Tour.
  • Around 11:20am: back at Future of Flight.
  • 11:30am–12:15pm: Gallery.
  • 12:15–12:40pm: Sky Deck.
  • 12:40–1:00pm: Boeing Store.

What are Future of Flight opening hours?

Boeing publishes facility hours of 8:30am–5:30pm, Monday to Sunday. Future of Flight closes on Thanksgiving and on December 24, December 25, December 31 and January 1.

Facility hours and Factory Tour departure times are not the same thing. The building stays open after the final Factory Tour has left, so always check the live booking calendar for the departures available on your date. Our opening hours guide covers the holiday dates in more detail.

What time is the first tour?

Morning departures are usually on the calendar, but the exact first time varies by date. Use Boeing’s official booking calendar for your day, not an older blog post.

What time is the last tour?

The final Factory Tour normally leaves well before the 5:30pm close, because the tour itself takes around 80 minutes. The booking calendar shows the last departure for each date.

Do tours run every hour?

On busy days, roughly. Boeing says tours run about every hour on its peak days, Friday to Sunday, and on Mondays and Thursdays. That is a description of the current pattern, not a permanent guarantee, so check your date.

What is the best time of day?

Morning or late morning usually works best for a first visit, because you have plenty of time afterward for the Gallery and the Sky Deck.

Is the earliest tour always best?

No. An early tour leaves more of the day free, but it can mean leaving Seattle early and driving north in commuter traffic.

Choose a time you can reach comfortably.

Is a late-afternoon tour a good idea?

It can work, but it leaves limited time for the Gallery and Sky Deck before the building closes at 5:30pm.

If you want the full Future of Flight visit, book an earlier slot.

Usually after the Factory Tour.

The factory departure is fixed and the Gallery is not. Get the timed part done first, then explore the exhibits at your own pace. Our Future of Flight Aviation Center guide lists what is in the Gallery.

Is arriving one hour early a problem?

No. You can use the extra time for check-in, a first look at the Gallery, the Boeing Store, or simply a coffee before departure.

Why do lockers matter?

No personal items at all are allowed on the factory tour: phones, cameras, tablets, bags, purses, pens, notepads, binoculars, food and drink all stay behind. Future of Flight has free lockers, and you need a few minutes to use them before the group leaves.

Should you use the restroom first?

Yes. Boeing says restrooms are not available during the Factory Tour, so use the facilities at Future of Flight before you leave.

How much walking is involved?

The tour involves about 0.3 miles / 0.5 km of travel round trip, plus whatever walking you do around Future of Flight. Boeing’s standard route includes six steps onto the coach, 22 stairs, about 300 ft of utility tunnel and a short elevator ride. An alternate route avoids the stairs; call Customer Service at least 48 hours ahead to arrange it.

How long should families allow?

Around three hours. Children add time for restroom breaks, lockers, the interactive exhibits and moving between areas.

Every Factory Tour participant must be at least 4 ft / 122 cm tall, so check this before you build a schedule around the tour.

How long should aviation enthusiasts allow?

Around 3–4 hours, if you want to read the exhibits in detail and spend real time plane spotting from the Sky Deck.

  • Quick visit: 30 minutes.
  • Normal visit: 45–60 minutes.
  • Detailed visit: 90 minutes or more.

How long on the Sky Deck?

  • Casual visitor: 15–20 minutes.
  • Plane spotter: 30–60 minutes or more.

Is three hours enough?

Yes. For most visitors, three hours is the right amount of time.

Is two hours enough?

Not if you are taking the Factory Tour. The 80-minute tour plus 30 minutes of check-in uses most of it, and leaves almost nothing for the Gallery or the Sky Deck.

Is four hours too much?

Not for a serious aviation enthusiast.

Can you spend the whole day?

You could, but most travelers will find it works better as a half-day trip.

Can you combine the Boeing Factory Tour with Museum of Flight?

Yes, but the two are on opposite sides of Seattle, and the Museum of Flight closes at 5pm. Treat it as a full aviation day with a morning factory slot and a car. Our Museum of Flight guide has its hours and prices.

Common timing mistakes

  1. Arriving at the tour time instead of 30 minutes early.
  2. Allowing only 80 minutes for the whole visit.
  3. Booking the latest tour and expecting hours of exhibits afterward.
  4. Underestimating traffic from Seattle.
  5. Scheduling another timed attraction straight after Boeing.
  6. Spending too long in the Gallery before the fixed Factory Tour.

Planning your visit

The Boeing Everett Factory Tour lasts about 80 minutes, but the complete Future of Flight visit deserves closer to three hours.

A simple planning formula works well:

30 minutes early + 80-minute Factory Tour + 60–90 minutes for Future of Flight = a relaxed Boeing visit.
