How to Get to the Future of Flight from Downtown Seattle
The Future of Flight is 25 miles north of Seattle with no practical transit. Compare driving, rideshare and guided tours by cost, time and hassle.
The Future of Flight Aviation Center is at 8415 Paine Field Blvd, Mukilteo, WA 98275 — about 25 miles north of downtown Seattle, on the northwest corner of Paine Field. The honest summary of getting there is that this is the hardest part of the whole visit, and the reason the guided tours exist at all.

Driving (The Best Option, If You Can)
Head north on I-5 from downtown, exit toward Everett/Mukilteo, and follow signs for Paine Field. Budget 35–50 minutes depending on traffic — northbound I-5 in the afternoon is the variable, and morning tour slots generally beat it.
Parking is free on site, near the entrance. Combined with the direct ticket price of $42–46, driving is comfortably the cheapest way onto the factory floor.
One warning worth repeating: set your navigation to Paine Field, not Boeing Field. Boeing Field is the other Boeing site, beside the Museum of Flight in south Seattle, 25 miles in the opposite direction. Sending yourself there on a timed-tour morning is an expensive mistake, because arriving late forfeits the reservation.
Boeing asks you to arrive 30 minutes before your tour time, so work backwards from that, not from the tour time itself.
Rideshare
Uber and Lyft will take you, and it is roughly 40 minutes. Two things to plan for.
First, you pay it twice — this is not a $46 day once you add both legs. Second, Mukilteo is not a dense pickup area, so the return leg can mean a wait and a surge, and you will be standing outside an aviation center in the Pacific Northwest while you do. Have the return booked or at least budgeted before you go.
If it is just you or a couple, run the numbers honestly against the guided tour price before assuming rideshare is cheaper. Often it isn’t.
Public Transport: Realistically, No
There is no direct or practical public-transport route from downtown Seattle to the Future of Flight. Combinations exist on paper — regional bus north, then a local connection — but they run to two hours or more with multiple changes and service gaps that do not survive contact with a timed factory-tour slot.
If you are relying on transit, take a guided tour instead. This is not us steering you to a booking; it is the actual answer.
Guided Tours from Downtown
A coach tour collapses the whole problem into one booking: pickup downtown, the 25 miles handled both ways, factory admission included, and a guide filling the 45 minutes in each direction.
Two departures are worth knowing:
- The From Seattle: Boeing Factory and Future of Flight Tour leaves from the charter zone beside the Hyatt Regency on 8th Avenue, runs about 4.5 hours, and holds 4.6/5 from more than 500 travelers. It is the established choice — full details here.
- The Seattle: Boeing Factory Tour and Future of Flight picks up at the Hyatt Regency on Howell Street, caps groups at 20, and adds a stop at Boeing’s original 1916 launch site on Lake Union. It is newer and has no reviews yet — what it trades away.
Both include free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and both let you leave your belongings locked on the coach — which matters more than it sounds, because nothing may be carried onto the factory floor and drivers queue for the on-site lockers.
Arriving: What Happens First
The center opens at 8:30am and closes at 5:30pm. On arrival you check in at the ticket desk in the gallery — the room with the flags — and then wait for your timed tour group to be called. Bags, phones and cameras go into a locker or back to the vehicle before you go anywhere near the factory.
If you have time either side, the gallery and the Strato Deck over the flight line are included with every ticket type, and photography there is fine.
